Your body is approximately 60 to 70% water. Blood is mostly water and the muscles, lungs, and your brain all contain lots of water. In fact your brain is said to be made of up of 80% water. Water is needed to regulate body temperature and to provide the pathways for nutrients to travel to your organs and tissues. Water provides transport of oxygen to your cells, removal of waste along with protecting your joints and organs.
Water is lost through breathing, going to the toilet and sweating. Further water loss is caused by caffeinated drinks (tea, coffee, energy drinks). Drinking adequate amounts of water is vital to keep the body’s homeostasis. Sorry but alcoholic drinks and caffeine do not count as water, infact you will need to increase your water intake even more if consuming alcohol and caffeine.
Symptoms of dehydration can include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches and constipation.
