Before treatment
It is beneficial if you increase you water intake in the days leading up to your appointment.
On the day of treatment wear some loose fitting clothes. The treatment will be applied through clothes or directly on the skin.
Generally a treatment will take 30 – 45 minutes, the first one being longer.
During treatment
The practitioner will assess the health status of the client by taking a detailed comprehensive assessment.
A series of specific moves will be applied, interrupted by several two minute waits that are an important part of the treatment.
Moves are executed by combining rolling like moves to benefit the whole body, or specific problem areas.
It is not unusual for the client to fall asleep as a treatment can be extremely relaxing.
After treatment
The client will be asked to increase their water intake to assist with rehydrating (see hydration section for importance of water).
There may be some homework for the client, be it awareness of posture, stretches, compress application, or other, depending on the clients needs.
The client may experience emotional releases, which is completely natural and part of the healing process. Many clients feel on top of the world, like they could run a marathon, but you need to rest and take it easy.
At the treatment session you will be given some information to take away with you outlining aftercare guidance.
Frequency of Treatments
Generally most conditions respond in two to three treatments, up to a week apart.
Acute conditions may be needed every few days, or daily.
Chronic conditions generally require more treatments, starting weekly then as results are achieved, spaced further apart.
You do not need to have a problem to receive Bowen. Results in some way are noticed on the first treatment.
